Our Mission

"Sharing God's Abundance to Transform Lives Through the Love of Jesus"

Zion Lutheran Church of McLaughlin is dedicated to growing in faith, love, and obedience to God. We exist to spread the Good News of God's saving grace through Jesus Christ to our community and beyond.

Our congregation is built on the foundational Lutheran beliefs in the power of Scripture, the grace of God, and the saving work of Jesus Christ. We believe that faith is a gift from God, and we are called to share this gift with all who seek it.

Our Heritage

A Legacy of Faith in McLaughlin

Zion Lutheran Church has been a cornerstone of faith in McLaughlin, Alberta for generations. Our congregation was established by faithful settlers who brought their Lutheran traditions to the Canadian prairies, building not just a church, but a community of believers.

Through the decades, our church has witnessed baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and funerals. We have celebrated together in times of joy and supported one another through times of hardship. Our history is woven into the fabric of McLaughlin itself.

Today, we continue the legacy of those founding families, maintaining our commitment to authentic Lutheran worship while welcoming new members and adapting to serve our modern community.

Part of the ELCA Family

Zion Lutheran Church is proudly affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), one of the largest Christian denominations in North America with nearly 4 million members.

The ELCA is a church that shares a living, daring confidence in God's grace. We are Lutherans who trust that God is loving, generous, and present in our lives. This faith compels us to:

  • Worship God through Word and Sacrament
  • Care for creation
  • Serve others with compassion
  • Welcome all people
  • Seek justice and peace
